The New renaissance of London’s food scene is unmistakable. From reinvented bangers and mash to regional authentic Chinese, the city’s re-written culinary story has finally arrived at a point where we can truly celebrate the quality of its restaurants.
There are new places to discover in the city every day. But this week we’ve focused on the ten that have landed on our radar and are worth paying attention to.
Papi is the permanent restaurant
From pop-up darlings Hot 4 U, serving up quirky creativity that the team has been testing across their successful pop-ups and residencies. The menu also offers a selection of cocktails and you can get a drink to go with the main courses.
Mount St Restaurant is so immediately confident and accomplished that you’ll be wondering why it hasn’t been around for years. A light-filled room arranged around a central bar. The walls are decorated with important modern and contemporary art (Freud and Matisse included) and smart experienced staff glide between buzzy tables.
Shiro is the Aqua Group’s fifth restaurant in London and follows on from their success in Hong Kong.
where they were famous for their intensely flavoured crystal sushi. Expect a changing omakase menu in the main room, with raw bar options in a hidden courtyard.
Tatale is a pan-African restaurant from chef Akwasi Brenya-Mensa and it’s set in the Africa Centre in Southwark. It’s a sister site to his supper clubs and the menu is made up of dishes inspired by his travels around the continent.
Miro is described as “an opulent, Mayfair interpretation of global favourites, with dramatic presentation.” It’s a glittering, blingy space and it isn’t short on Instagram-worthy pastry creations either.
Inca is the latest Latin-inspired restaurant in London and it’s launching at the London Palladium on Argyll Street
with immersive live entertainment and tasty Latin American dishes. This is the place to see and be seen in the city’s most exclusive dining address.
Humble Grape
The ribbon on its sixth wine bar in Kensal Rise and it’s a great spot for a natural, low-intervention wine. They have a full Italian deli on the ground floor, and you can even try their own small-batch gelato.
Bun House are a Hong Kong favourite and they’ve brought their buns north. Their steamed buns are hugely popular in Chinatown and they’ve teamed up with Angel’s Myungrang Hot Dog to offer their own oozy cheese toasties as well.
TOZI has long been a Victoria favourite, and now the team behind it have opened up an all-day eatery in Peckham, serving their Neapolitan pizzas, Napoli-inspired dishes and tapas. They’ve also expanded their wine list to include a range of organic, biodynamic and sustainable wines from independent producers, plus a small-batch range of cheeses too.
Stack & Still has a Scottish heritage and their pancakes are hugely popular among Scots, so they’ve brought their beloved treats to London. They’re offering a range of classics like the Big Breakfast Stack as well as some new ones too.
